Course Description
Impressionism is one of the most popular and beloved art history movements. Monet, Renoir and Degas are the names known not only to art lovers, but also those not interested in art. The basics of Impressionism: capturing the moment, painting outdoors, depicting scenes from modern life, are known by everyone.
But Impressionism is so much more. For example – Degas didn’t consider himself to be an Impressionist. Towards the end of his life, Monet painted water lilies that are 100% abstract. Renoir on the other hand looked towards the old masters and the classics. There are artists who are equally important to the movement but who have faded a little in comparison with those we have already mentioned. Have you heard of Caillebotte, Bazille, Gonzales or Bracquemond? Did you know that there were four female Impressionists? Or that, during the first decades of Impressionism, the entire group was mocked, hated and didn’t earn money, but everything changed in the 1880s and 1890s thanks to one, very stubborn art dealer who saw his chance in the United States?
We must warn you – this Impressionism online course really summarises everything you need to know about Impressionism. Every important member of the Impressionist group has a separate lesson devoted to them. This course is filled with paintings and contexts about the epoch, biographical information and, of course (this is always the most interesting part!), gossip about the artists.
This course is HUGE. LONG. TIME-CONSUMING. Which is why it has the word “MEGA” in the title. But after its completion you will truly know everything there is to know about Impressionism. And a disclaimer – if you don’t yet know anything at all about Impressionism or art in general, don’t worry. The course is designed to be interesting for both beginners and advanced students. After finishing it you can call yourself a hardcore Impressionism fan.
